Package 2 – hotel room without roommate, local van transportation and 2 dinners. Total per person cost is $299

Air fare – Due to schedule differences with each individual attending a plunge, we will rely on YOU to book your own flight. However, if you need help booking a flight we can refer you to a great travel agent. We have found that most flights are around $300 round trip.

Can we drive there instead of flying? - Sure! Realize that it's a long trip (22 hrs+), and we'd like you there for the duration of the scheduled plunge activities.

Next Gathering May 3rd!
Dear KC Orlando Friends,

It's been a great joy to see so many of you courageously step into this wild idea to start our 1st National Campus next year in Orlando ... Those who have been to the gatherings in Troy and "Plunged" into the Winter Garden area have been experiencing something exciting, scary and wonderful as we together sense the real calling of God on our lives to live out His plan for us .... in Florida, in Michigan, where ever He has been moving ahead of us, paving the way for us, "created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them" (Eph 2:10)

As we continue to walk ahead together, we wish to remind you, that continuing THIS Wednesday - April 29th, we will be meeting weekly to pray for each other, for Kensington and the Orlando Campus and for the movement of God occurring in the Winter Garden / Greater Orlando area. Join us every week, every Wednesday at 6:25 in Room 213, right next to the elevator on the 2nd floor at the Kensington Troy campus.

Bring your own personal prayer issues and praise reports, or email your requests directly to the Kensington Orlando prayer team online at: Orlando@KensingtonChurch.org (Subject: Prayer).

KC Orlando Webpage

We will be meeting again for our next Orlando Pre-Launch “gathering” on Sunday, April 5th.  During our last time together, we had a chance to all get on the same page by hearing stories from Joe Wurm, Campus Start-up Director, about the Kensington campusing history and strategy. Kevin Valentine, KC Orlando Teaching Pastor, shared what it's like to consider the unique dream that God has for your life, a dream that He's created just for you to experience His great plan for an awesome life adventure with Him!  Steve Andrews encouraged us all to consider what our lives could be like if we lived full out in pursuit of the unique purpose that God has in store for each of us ...

If you're continuing to dream and pray about how God might be calling you to Orlando - whether you’re “all in” or just curious- you’re invited to come back for another informal, “no commitment” meeting with the Orlando Pre-Launch Team!  Kevin Valentine will share more about the Orlando strategy, others will tell us how they have been hearing from God, and we'll have a chance to continue to connect together as we jump into this journey with Kensington and God.  Plus, more info on the "Plunges" to the Orlando area,  time for prayer, more Q&A, and snacks. All invited - CHILDCARE PROVIDED! See you Sunday, April 5th at Kensington Troy from 4:30-6pm in Room 213.  Questions? Orlando@KensingtonChurch.org -or- 248.786.0609

KC Logo
We are excited to be completing our official unveiling of Kensington Orlando at every Kensington Campus over the next few weeks!  We still have one short  fun “Preview” happening next month at Lake Orion. In each meeting Kevin Valentine will be laying out the vision for our 1st National Campus, the timeline for its launch and the details you’ll need to know to consider being a part.  If you're thinking about Orlando and want to meet others who are too, be sure to get to our last Preview!

The schedule:

Mar 14 & 15 - Troy Campus - After all services!
Mar. 29th - Lake Orion Campus: After 9:30 & 11am services!

We are pumped about what God is already doing in this Orlando adventure. We can’t wait to see you at one of the last preview ... or better yet, why not drop into our next  Orlando Gathering on April 5th? Either way, we hope to see you at one of the upcoming meetings!

By the way, if you’d like to lend a hand with one of these meetings, we could really use your help. We need volunteers to set up tables, tear down, pass out handouts and just be a friendly face. You can contact Judi at judi.near-hunt@kensingtonchurch.org or 248.786.0609.

Orlando - Did you know?

  • Nov. 6th, 2008 at 10:35 AM
KC Logo
Did you know that Orlando is the 3rd fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States?  In fact, according to the last US Census, "Three states – Florida, California and Texas – would account for nearly one half (46 percent) of the total U.S. population growth between 2000 and 2030, according to Census Bureau state population projections released today. Consequently, Florida, now the fourth most populous state, would edge past New York into third place in total population by 2011."

Did you know that in 2006, Orlando was 2nd among cities for hottest job growth in America?

Did you know that almost 40% of people living in Orlando have Midwestern Roots?  When you add in the Northeast, it accounts for almost 55% of all Orlando residents.  That's alot of people from our side of the country!

Did you know that Orlando is arts centric?  Check out what the Orlando Economic Developement Commission is saying.

Metro Orlando’s highly visible entertainment industry has resulted
in a worldwide brand associated with imagination, storytelling and
 customer service.  - MOEDC 2007

Thinking about coming on this adventure?  Consider this...the average temperature is 83 degrees, there are 5 beaches with in 1 hour and the cost of living is about 10% less.

I know what you are thinking...suffering for Jesus.

Pray for us and for what God has for Kensington Orlando.  Also, listen and see if God is calling you to be a part of this exciting adventure!

Beauty Reborn

The town of Winter Garden, Florida, is a historic jewel set on the southern edge of Lake Apopka, whose beauty is in the process of being reclaimed. Only 15 miles west of Orlando, the preserve is a world away from the hustle and bustle you'd expect to find in this part of the state.

Standing in a wooden pavilion at the end of a 3,000-foot boardwalk that zigzags through the Oakland Nature Preserve on Lake Apopka’s south shore, I see a great blue heron, snowy egrets and four baby alligators. Established less than a decade ago, the 128-acre preserve is a prime spot to witness the rebirth of Florida’s fourth-largest lake as an important wildlife habitat. Weekend “nature creeps” offer an up-close look at the re-establishment of native plants that are bringing back both butterflies and bobcats.

I strap on my helmet and hop back on the West Orange Trail to bicycle a few miles back to Winter Garden and my home base for the weekend, The Edgewater Hotel. The 22-mile “rails-to-trails” project runs from Oakland to the city of Apopka, with a series of rest stations and outposts that draw more than 40,000 people a month. The most striking section runs through the median of Plant Street in downtown Winter Garden, where it loops around sculptural fountains and under the Centennial Clock Tower.

Downtown Winter Garden is home to three museums, each with its cache of old photographs and other mementos. My favorite is the Heritage in the old train station, with its collection of antique citrus labels from West Orange County. But right now I’m ravenous, so I stop in at the Flavours of Europe delicatessen for a sandwich.

The deli shares the ground floor of The Edgewater Hotel with the Winter Garden Heritage Foundation, which stages free art exhibits in the hotel lobby. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, this classic Florida resort hotel opened in the 1920s and was saved from the wrecking ball in 1995. Owner Mike Lanza and his business partner Max Blanchard have faithfully restored the hotel to look as it did when anglers came from all over hoping to land record-breaking largemouth bass in nearby Lake Apopka.

Everything is within walking or biking distance of The Edgewater, including the preserve, so park your car and work up an appetite as I did. A hike or a bike ride is a quieter way to absorb Winter Park’s authenticity&emdash;as well as its herons, history and hoagies.

Escape-O-Meter

The Edgewater Hotel, Winter Garden, Florida

Location Twenty-five miles east of Orlando’s international airport in the heart of downtown Winter Garden (99 West Plant Street, 407-654-6921, www.historicedgewater.com).

Money Rates start at $72 for a single room and run up to $130 for a two-room suite. This includes wireless Internet and a full breakfast made to order by the innkeeper.

Local Knowledge The museums in Winter Garden (www.wghf.org) are all free, as is the Oakland Nature Preserve (www.oaklandnaturepreserve.org), open from 8 a.m. until dusk. And that’s not the only attraction that’s preserving the past; the $3 million restoration of the 299-seat Garden Theatre has resulted in a successful range of theater, movies and educational series&emdash;the first in 40 years.

Ready to Step In? Did you know...

  • Sep. 24th, 2007 at 9:30 AM
KC Logo

Are you already tracking with God on your specific role as it relates to the new Kensington Orlando Campus?  Are you ready to lean in and take the next step?  Did you know that there's a few ways that you can begin your adventure right now?  You can:

1.  Pray.  Check out the KC Orlando Prayer page.  Set aside time to pray intentionally and specifically for Kensington Orlando.  Pray for those in the community there that are far from God.  Pray for the Campus leadership team, Kevin Valentine, Teaching Pastor, his wife and children.  Pray for the logistics of the launch effort to be effective, meaningful and joyful experiences for all involved in the Monthly Campus Gatherings and The Plunge Trips.  Pray for our partnership with others in the Winter Garden area - for facilities, outreach opportunities, core team relocations, relations with other churches.

2. Help.  If you have the time and desire to lend a hand, we need help with everything from office administration, coordination of meetings, set-up / tear-down, hospitality, child care for group meetings, communications and more ... If you'd like to pitch in, email Judi at Judi.Near-Hunt@KensingtonChurch.org or call 248.786.0609.

3. Give.  If you are feeling prompted to begin supporting Kensington Orlando financially, you can start directing your giving towards the project now:  When writing a check, simply put "KC Orlando" in the memo line and drop it in the offering pouch at any campus.   Or, mail your checks directly to "Kensington Orlando" at Kensington Church - 1825 E. Square Lake, Troy, MI  48085.  If you're prepared to give online - you can do so on the Kensington Church Online Giving webpage.

4. Invite.  Do you know others who might be in a position to consider the call of God on their lives as it relates to Kensington Orlando?  Perhaps you're networked in with others already in the greater Orlando area?  Why not turn them on to KCO ... give them a call or send them email?  Pray for them and others as they consider joining Kensington and God to have an impact in Florida!!

Thank you for all that you're doing to step out in faith with us in this awesome adventure .... Can't wait to hear stories about how He is working in you and through you to advance His kingdom now!

Update - 5/6/09
Last night there were 17 people present for our prayer time!  Next week, we will begin meeting in the 3rd Floor Lobby Lounge at Kensington Troy - 6.25pm.

As always, praying with others is so powerful! God was amazing (AGAIN) in leading me to the scripture we used last night as it ended up being the same scripture Abdu Murray used in his amazing message last night at New Community. Here is our hand out from last night.
