Serving Opportunities

Just a quick reminder about upcoming serving opportunities in Orlando.

This Saturday, November 21 from 9:00am until around noon, we will be delivering Thanksgiving Baskets to those in need. We will be meeting at Oasis Community Church on Avalon Road at 9:00am. Contact Mark today if you want to help or need more details.

December 4 - Downtown WG is hosting their annual "Light up Winter Garden" event. The event is scheduled to begin at 6:00pm with the official tree and decoration lights turned on at 6:15pm. There will be vendors set up around town and the event will wrap up around 9:00pm. We have met with the WG officials and have offered our services in assisting the WG workers in cleaning up anything they need, so plan on hanging out with us as we do this.

December 5 - Downtown WG is hosting their annual Christmas parade on Plant Street with the parade starting at 1:00pm and running until 2:30. Come and gather with us as we all enjoy a Christmas Parade in Florida, a first for many of us, and then plan on staying after as we will once again help the WG workers with cleaning up the downtown area. Don't worry, any float that has an animal in it must also have someone following who will clean up any mess - but it could be you if you want.

If you didn't get the opportunity to sign up for any of these events and still want to, please email Mark Oliverio at moliverio@kensingtonchurch.org to let us know that you will be there.

Next Gathering on Sunday, Nov. 1st!!

Valentine Family Update #2 ...

  • Aug. 27th, 2009 at 12:53 PM

Hello again from Orlando-Land -

We have been here two weeks already! So far it has been a great, weird, exciting, stressful transition.

Things we like – Thunderstorms every afternoon (way cool), hearing the Disney fireworks every night at 10pm, palm trees everywhere!, school administration is really helpful and organized, parks with lots of shade (you can actually be outside in 90+ degree weather if you are in the shadeJ), really smooth roads, Winter Garden mall at Fowler groves 5 minutes away, Chic Fil-A with a play place for the kids, people are really friendly here, meeting new people, and being here with OVER 50 PEOPLE already!

Things we don’t like – The heat is pretty hot if you aren’t in the shade, not being in our house yet (it’s a short sale….these things take time), toll roads, not having a swimming pool available to beat the heat, working in Panera and trying to make phone calls and video meetings happen with lots of background noise and people listening in, filling out the plethora of paperwork to get our kids into their schools, school starts next Monday (Summer has gone by so fast).

I still cant believe that 50+ people are already here, our plan was for about 30 or so. Needless to say we are bumping up our timelines for starting small groups and gatherings here in FL. What an incredible Journey we are all on. I am so excited for those of you planning on coming and being a part of this. God is on the move already down here and I cant wait to see how it all is going to unfold.

We are planning a serving day in the next couple of weeks to go help our friends at the Destiny Foundation in Downtown Orlando. You can check out what they do at Battlepoverty.org. They are going to be a partner of ours as we get going.

I am praying for those of you who are “In Motion” for getting here and also for those of you who are still on the Fence. There is plenty of time to get down here. Be patient and know that we will welcome you with open arms when you get here!

In Him,

KV & the whole V family…

Valentine Family Update ...

Hey all,

Well Melissa and I made it to Orlando last week on Wednesday.  We left last Monday and drove to Mammoth Caves in KY to take the kids on some cave tours.  Amazing btw if you haven’t been you need to go...wow! It sure was weird driving out of MI knowing we aren’t coming back.  We are now Floridians....crazy!  God is already on the move down here, we have over 50 people already down here from MI.  That’s about 20 more than expected and more are on their way!  We are settling in to new neighborhoods and a new way of life.... Lots of sunshine, hot hot hot humidity (not bad in the shade tho), a thunderstorm for 10-20 minutes most afternoons, Chic Fil-A (even one with a play place for the kids!), hearing the Disney fireworks every night around 10pm, 3 football teams to root for,  and really friendly people so far!  The transition has been kinda crazy with so many of us down here trying to figure out life in a different state. Its hectic getting ready for school to start next week.  Lots of paperwork and such to fill out.

As far as the Orlando Campus goes we are hard at work putting together small group plans and regular meeting times for all of us down here.  We didn’t expect so many people here so we are bumping up our plans for starting small groups and gatherings.

A couple of great stories have begun to surface. One is from a family that has been attending the troy campus for the last 3 or 4 years.  They have watched the Orlando thing develop over the last year and thought “that is going to be a great adventure for those people going!”  Little did they know that last month the Husband (John)  would get a dream job with the Golf Channel which is based here in Orlando.  So two weeks ago we get this email from them saying “hey we are in Orlando...what do we do?”  Haha.  Melissa and I and the kids and another family ,the Semps, are going over there this Sunday to meet them and swim in their pool, BBQ, and welcome them to Central FL (even though they beat us here!).

Another is from a young woman named Chelsea who was initially interested in Orlando but early on figured it would be too hard as a young girl right out of College to head down and be a part of all of this. Three weeks ago she got a call from a school down here that wanted to interview her, flew down, got the job, packed up her stuff, and is living in Claremont about 10 minutes away.

As of now we are already starting to attract locals from the area to what we are doing.  So far this truly has been the adventure of a lifetime for all involved. God is truly beginning a new movement ‘Kensington Style’ here in Winter Garden.

We covet your prayers as we reach out to many new people God is placing all of us near down here.  We are also in the process of looking for and hiring staff and would love your prayers for that as well.  SO for now I will leave you with some Pics of the drive down and our first pic inside the state lines of Florida!....Go Gators??? :)

In Him ,

Kevin Valentine

Dear KC Orlando Friends,

It's been a great joy to see so many of you courageously step into this wild idea to start our 1st National Campus next year in Orlando ... Those who have been to the gatherings in Troy and "Plunged" into the Winter Garden area have been experiencing something exciting, scary and wonderful as we together sense the real calling of God on our lives to live out His plan for us .... in Florida, in Michigan, where ever He has been moving ahead of us, paving the way for us, "created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them" (Eph 2:10)

As we continue to walk ahead together, we wish to remind you, that continuing THIS Wednesday - April 29th, we will be meeting weekly to pray for each other, for Kensington and the Orlando Campus and for the movement of God occurring in the Winter Garden / Greater Orlando area. We will be meeting again for our next Orlando Pre-Launch “gathering” on Sunday, April 5th.  During our last time together, we had a chance to all get on the same page by hearing stories from Joe Wurm, Campus Start-up Director, about the Kensington campusing history and strategy. Kevin Valentine, KC Orlando Teaching Pastor, shared what it's like to consider the unique dream that God has for your life, a dream that He's created just for you to experience His great plan for an awesome life adventure with Him!  Steve Andrews encouraged us all to consider what our lives could be like if we lived full out in pursuit of the unique purpose that God has in store for each of us ...

If you're continuing to dream and pray about how God might be calling you to Orlando - whether you’re “all in” or just curious- you’re invited to come back for another informal, “no commitment” meeting with the Orlando Pre-Launch Team!  Kevin Valentine will share more about the Orlando strategy, others will tell us how they have been hearing from God, and we'll have a chance to continue to connect together as we jump into this journey with Kensington and God.  Plus, more info on the "Plunges" to the Orlando area,  time for prayer, more Q&A, and snacks. All invited - CHILDCARE PROVIDED! See you Sunday, April 5th at Kensington Troy from 4:30-6pm in Room 213.  Questions? Orlando@KensingtonChurch.org -or- 248.786.0609

KC Logo
We are excited to be completing our official unveiling of Kensington Orlando at every Kensington Campus over the next few weeks!  We still have one short  fun “Preview” happening next month at Lake Orion. In each meeting Kevin Valentine will be laying out the vision for our 1st National Campus, the timeline for its launch and the details you’ll need to know to consider being a part.  If you're thinking about Orlando and want to meet others who are too, be sure to get to our last Preview!

The schedule:

Mar 14 & 15 - Troy Campus - After all services!
Mar. 29th - Lake Orion Campus: After 9:30 & 11am services!

We are pumped about what God is already doing in this Orlando adventure. We can’t wait to see you at one of the last preview ... or better yet, why not drop into our next  Orlando Gathering on April 5th? Either way, we hope to see you at one of the upcoming meetings!

By the way, if you’d like to lend a hand with one of these meetings, we could really use your help. We need volunteers to set up tables, tear down, pass out handouts and just be a friendly face. You can contact Judi at judi.near-hunt@kensingtonchurch.org or 248.786.0609.
